What tbdmoney is

tbdmoney is an AI budgeting assistant you talk to over text messages. Its replies are generated by AI, not written by a person. It reads the accounts you connect, builds a budget with you, and coaches you against it. When you text the tbdmoney number or subscribe, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy, and you agree to do business with us electronically: texts from tbdmoney and pages like this one count as "in writing".

What tbdmoney is not

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older, live in the United States, and use a phone number you own. One account per person. Connect only accounts that are yours or that you are authorized to connect.

Your phone number is your account

tbdmoney identifies you by the phone number you text from. Anyone with access to your phone or number can see what tbdmoney texts you and text it as you, so protect your device the way you protect a banking app. If you lose your number, change it, or see texts you did not expect, contact us right away. Messages we send to the number on file count as delivered to you.

Texting

tbdmoney works over text messages, so it texts you: replies, a daily or weekly digest, and alerts you asked for. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply. Text STOP at any time and tbdmoney stops texting you. Text START to turn it back on. Text HELP for help.

Before you subscribe

You can try tbdmoney before paying: new users get a limited number of messages per day (currently 10) at no charge, enough to set up, connect a bank, and see your real numbers. The trial and plan below start only when you check out. During the free intro, and any time you are not subscribed, tbdmoney may limit features and message volume.

Bank connections

Bank access runs through Plaid, is read-only, and uses your bank's own login: we never see your credentials. Plaid's terms and privacy policy apply to its part of the connection. Keeping a bank connected costs us money, so if you connect a bank but do not subscribe, we may disconnect it after about a week; tbdmoney warns you by text before that happens, and you can reconnect any time by subscribing. You can also ask tbdmoney to disconnect a bank at any time.

Your plan

Refunds

If a charge was a mistake, text tbdmoney within 14 days of the charge and we refund it. After 14 days, refunds are at our discretion, but we would rather refund a charge than argue about one. Refunds go back to the card that paid. This promise adds to, and never limits, any refund rights the law gives you.

Your data

The Privacy Policy covers what we collect and how we use it. Two points worth repeating here: we do not sell your data, and you can delete it at any time by texting "delete my data". Deleting your data also disconnects your banks and cancels any active subscription.

Third parties

tbdmoney is built on services we do not control: Plaid for bank connections, Stripe for payments, Apple's iMessage network for delivery, and AI model providers for generating replies. We choose them carefully, but their outages are outside our control, and their terms govern their side of things.

Acceptable use

Do not use tbdmoney to break the law, to probe, overload, or attack the service, to send abusive content, to access it with bots or scrapers, or to connect accounts that are not yours. We can suspend or close an account that does, and we can refuse or limit service where we reasonably suspect fraud or abuse.

Disclaimers and limits

The service is provided "as is" and "as available"; we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the maximum extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties, and our total liability to you for any claim related to the service is limited to the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for losses caused by your bank's data being wrong or late, or by outages of the third parties above. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, and some states do not allow certain limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Ending and changing service

You can stop at any time: cancel your plan, text STOP, or delete your data. We can suspend or end the service for abuse or non-payment, and we can change or retire features as the product evolves. If we shut the product down, we tell you by text and refund any unused portion of a prepaid period.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change in a way that matters, we post the new version here and tell you by text before it takes effect. Using tbdmoney after that date means you accept the new terms. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still stands.

Contact and disputes

Questions or problems: text the tbdmoney number or email ryan@tbdmoney.com. Talk to us first; most problems are a text away from fixed, and you agree to give us that chance before filing anything. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and disputes belong to the state or federal courts located there, except that either of us may use small claims court where you live.

Short version: try it free with a daily message cap, then 14 days free at checkout, then $12 a month. Cancel with one text, we refund honest mistakes, your money never moves, and you're talking to an AI.
