Who we are
tbdmoney is a budgeting assistant you talk to over text messages. To contact us about privacy, email ryan@tbdmoney.com.
What we collect
- Your phone number, because that is how you and tbdmoney text.
- Your bank account and transaction data, through Plaid, after you connect a bank. We can read balances and transactions. We cannot move money, and we never see your bank username or password.
- Your messages with tbdmoney, and the things tbdmoney learns from them (like your goals), so it can help you over time.
How we use it
We use your data to provide the service: categorize your spending, build your budget, send the digests and alerts you asked for, and answer your questions. tbdmoney's replies come from AI model providers (OpenAI and Anthropic); the relevant parts of your data are processed for that purpose.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it for anything except running tbdmoney for you. We do not move money.
Your choices
- Text "delete my data" at any time. After you confirm, we delete your records from our live systems, disconnect your bank access at Plaid, and cancel any active subscription.
- Text STOP at any time and tbdmoney stops texting you. Text START to turn it back on. Text HELP for support information.
- You can disconnect your bank or stop texting tbdmoney whenever you want.
- Plaid's own privacy policy (plaid.com/legal) covers Plaid's handling of your data.
How long we keep data
Your account data lives in our systems while you use tbdmoney. Detailed conversation processing records are kept for 14 days for debugging, then deleted. Encrypted backups exist for disaster recovery and expire automatically: routine copies within days, archived copies within 12 months. When you delete your data, it leaves live systems immediately and leaves backups as those copies expire.
Security
Your data moves over encrypted connections and is stored with encryption at rest. Access is limited to the operator of the service under documented security policies.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (including California), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, and to delete it. Every one of those works the same way here: text tbdmoney or email us, and we act on it; asking costs nothing and never changes how we treat you. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. As a financial service, we handle your nonpublic personal information under a written information security program.
Changes
If this policy changes, we post the new version here with a new effective date before it takes effect.
